The Rebekah Circle
The Rebekah we meet in the Old Testament was chosen as a wife for Abraham's son, Isaac, because of her beauty and her servant?s heart. After many years of trying to conceive she finally became pregnant with the twins Jacob and Esau. Like all of us, Rebekah had her faults. Acting on a prophesy she had heard that said her older son shall serve her younger son, she helped Jacob trick his father into giving him his older brother's birthright.
The members of the WUMC Rebekah Circle are a diverse group. Some of us are young and some of us are more young-at-heart. Many of us have elementary and preschool age children, but some of us have no children, and some have older children. We enjoy getting out for "girl's nights" with meetings at Marcy's Clayground, the Candle Lab, and cooking classes at the Hills Market, among other events. Sometimes we meet for self-improvement with things like yoga classes, prayer paths, and self-defense workshops.
We also enjoy helping others with our time, energy, and financial support. We support the Columbus Literacy Council with supply drives, donate Christmas stockings to the United Methodist Children?s Home, deliver birthday presents to the homebound, and support UMW missions worldwide with our giving. Many of us are also involved in other groups in the church such as the Children's Ministry Council, ARK, New Beginnings and Vacation Bible School, among others. You also may have seen us occasionally serving cookies and coffee in the Dixon Lounge. We meet on the third Monday of every month and are always interested in welcoming more women into our group.
