The Naomi Circle

The Naomi Circle at work! In the book of Ruth we meet Naomi, a woman of great strength and character. In the days of famine, she and her husband, along with their two sons, journeyed from Bethlehem to the town of Moab, where they started a new life and their sons were later married. But after the death of her husband and both sons, Naomi was again forced to leave her home, and she returned to Bethlehem with her daughter-in-law Ruth. We in the Naomi Circle share her strength and spirit in our work with the UMW. We are a group of energetic, young-atheart women with a passion for Christ and a commitment to helping others.

Like other Circles, Naomi members support the UMW's missions through financial contributions and fundraisers, but we are also friends who get together regularly for an evening of camaraderie and fellowship. Our gatherings, held in members' homes, typically consist of a short business meeting, an educational or fun program, and always, sharing of food. Among the fascinating programs we have enjoyed in the past were a presentation on floral fashion and design, a report from a volunteer who had just returned from a mission to Africa, and a discussion with Alan on the history and meaning of stoles and paraments. We support the church and community by donating gifts for children at the UM Children's Home, collecting donations for New Life, NNEMAP, and other worthwhile causes, and providing cookies and serving at coffee hour. Last month we assembled Easter baskets for the church's homebound members, and are presently collecting an assortment of cleaning supplies for the CRIS Project family.

Naomi Circle meets the third Wednesday evening of the month, and we welcome new members. For more information, contact Vivian Schweb (436-6274) or Patti Sykes (939-0527).
