Open Door Lenten Study: Preparing to Lead a More Christian Life. How are we, as Methodists, called to live in this world? What actions should we take when faced with social issues? The Social Principles of the United Methodist Church outline positions on social issues and offer suggestions for responsible action on compelling questions of our time. As Christians and Methodists, what actions should we take on these compelling issues? During the Lenten season, we are called to reflect on our faith and prepare ourselves for new beginnings as Easter people. Join our class in examining these issues through the series, Becoming the People of God, on Sunday February 10 through Sunday, March 16, at 9:30 am, in the Browning Lounge. Each week we will review our church's stance on these issues, read and discuss related Scripture and pose actions we should take. Come and explore how Jesus calls us to act in the world today. Sign up on Sundays between services, in the Ministry Hallway, or with the Church Office to reserve a copy of the study book, Working Together, Sharing the Bounty.

NEW! "Becoming Well Versed: A Deeper Look at the Bible Texts of the Sermon" is a Sunday morning class for all church members and visitors interested in learning more about the Bible in a structured, inter-generational, interactive, casual setting. Preparation can be as much or as little as your time permits. Starting the first Sunday in Lent, the class will be held at the 9:30 hour. We will delve into the context and background of the lectionary texts – the texts that are the basis for that morning's sermon. No background in Bible study is required. Indeed, this is a safe way to begin Bible study – no expectations of prior knowledge, and the ability to miss a Sunday without missing the point. (An inexpensive quarterly will be available if you wish to prepare ahead of time or review a missed week.) We hope this will be a truly intergenerational interactive class with college-age to retirement-age participants. Although beginning with Lent, the class will continue throughout the year, becoming a regular feature of Sunday morning. Please mark your calendars for February 10 and sign up in the Ministry Hallway if you expect to attend any of the Sundays in February, to help determine the size of the room and the number of quarterlies needed.
