Childrens Ministries

Parent Volunteers

When the crowd tried to keep the children away from Jesus, he was quick to respond, "Let the children come to me." Jesus taught that children were to be included and provided for within the community of faith. Today, the church may be the only place where some children find the unconditional love and care they so desperately need to grow and thrive. As Christians, we must take our responsibilities to our children very seriously. We fail in our responsibilities if we neglect to take adequate precautions against abuse in our churches. It is unlikely that we can completely prevent child abuse in every situation, but it is possible for us to greatly reduce the risk by following a thorough practical policy of prevention. This policy attempts to do just that for our church which deals with children, youth and vulnerable adults. It is based on our understanding of the widespread problem of abuse throughout our country.

Please review our Safe Sanctuary Policy and volunteer application form.

We encourage people to participate in leadership roles in our Children's Ministry program by using their spiritual gifts and passions. Several serving opportunities are available with training provided for each.

Teachers: Fulfill a four week time commitment to teach in one of the workshop rooms. Each week you will have a new group of children, however, the lesson stays the same. Your choice in what workshop you teach can be based on your interests or passion (computers, drama/music, art, etc.)

Guides: Guides meet each week with the same group of students. You assist teachers in our sign-in procedure with the children, help the children make the connection between the Bible story and their activities and provide a consistent presence each week. There is no advance preparation for being a Guide.

Room Coordinators: Provide assistance to the Director of Children's Ministry in setting up rooms and ordering supplies.

Children's Ministry Team: Serve for one year, or more, on our Children's Ministry Team. The team helps to provide guidance and assistance for all programs and activities that kids at WUMC participate in. If you are interested, please let the Children's Ministry Director know. We are a Family!
