Membership

We are proud of our Church and invite You to join us.

Why Become A Member?

Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12 that we are all members of Christ' body....When you join a Methodist Church you are asked to take a vow to "Promise to support the church with your prayers, your presence, your gifts and your service." In return, the church promises to make a commitment to you to uphold you as you mature in the Faith.

How Do I Become a Member at Worthington UMC?

  1. The first step of that commitment begins by filling out the membership inquiry form online or by circling your name on the red friendship pad in worship this Sunday, indicating your interest in membership.
  2. You will be contacted by one of the members of the Evangelism Work Area who will schedule you for the upcoming New Members class. New Member classes are held every quarter of the church year. If you are unable to fill out this form or if you have questions, please contact Mary Wetterauer, membership secretary for events and programming.
  3. Membership Classes are held quarterly and are four hours long on a Sunday with lunch served. Babysitting is available if reserved in advance. In the class we explore our Methodist heritage, our personal history, our ministries of today and our vision for tomorrow. We end the day with Holy Communion. For more information contact Reverend David Hoffman.

Our History

Exploring Our Roots

A look at our church as it has grown in stages. The history of the Worthington United Methodist Church spans all but five years of the history of the state of Ohio and Worthington itself. Thomas Jefferson was president as our church history begins. As we look back more than 193 years to our beginnings much has changed since the Reverend Mr. Martin, the Methodist circuit rider, gathered those first pioneer families into a Methodist Society in 1808.

In 1823, the Worthington Methodists built their first church and our presence grew throughout the centuries. The Twenty First century has now arrived. At Worthington United Methodist we walk boldly into our future, remembering the people, their sacrifice and dedication which brings us to this time in the life of our church family. We believe we inherited our willingness to stay flexible, amenable to change, to meet new challenges, to press forward with confidence and hope, from our ancestors in the faith. How they faced the challenges of their era with hope and confidence inspires us. Our commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ connects us to the past and catapults us into the future. In Christ, all things are possible.
