Our History

Exploring Our Roots

A look at our church as it has grown in stages. The history of the Worthington United Methodist Church spans all but five years of the history of the state of Ohio and Worthington itself. Thomas Jefferson was president as our church history begins. As we look back more than 193 years to our beginnings much has changed since the Reverend Mr. Martin, the Methodist circuit rider, gathered those first pioneer families into a Methodist Society in 1808.

In 1823, the Worthington Methodists built their first church and our presence grew throughout the centuries. The Twenty First century has now arrived. At Worthington United Methodist we walk boldly into our future, remembering the people, their sacrifice and dedication which brings us to this time in the life of our church family. We believe we inherited our willingness to stay flexible, amenable to change, to meet new challenges, to press forward with confidence and hope, from our ancestors in the faith. How they faced the challenges of their era with hope and confidence inspires us. Our commitment to the Gospel of Jesus Christ connects us to the past and catapults us into the future. In Christ, all things are possible.
